This is a non-detailed explanation of what a VPN does for people not familiar with the concept. More technnical explanations can be found here for those interested.

  • The VPN (Virtual Private Network) creates a secure tunnel between the User Device and the VPN Server:
  • Data are encrypted on the user device itself, and travel encrypted to the VPN server.
  • All the user's request are done from the VPN Server, and therefore no one knows the identity of the final target.
  • All DNS querys are done by the VPN server, so can not be tracked by anyone, including your ISP.
  • It also applies to the user IP, which remains unknown because all requests are made with the server's IP.
  • So, nobody knows what kind of data are transmitted to the VPN server, or whom they are directed to.
